Windward Studios

Windward Reports was created by Windward Studios--both companies named for Founder David Thielen’s childhood home on the windward-side of Oahu, Hawaii. It has headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. In 1994, Windward Studios was initially an innovative game development studio. Our very first product, a popular RTS game called Enemy Nations, sold over 60,000 copies. With this huge success, we took our first step in software development. After six years of over-the-top sales, we now offer Enemy Nations to our customers for free. Not only that, but we still continue to support it for free.

While the world of online games might be one of creating fun for the end user—the enterprise reporting software market was decidedly not. Windward’s next products would have to settle for being easy to use, instead of “fun to play”. Windward re-dedicated its efforts to creating products which were immediately familiar, intuitive and delivered a huge value to their customers jusy by being so invisible. Simply put, Windward’s developers worked very hard to make it’s new products effortless. Ironic or not, this philosophy has created a worldwide reputation for Windward’s extreme ease of use.

Since 2003, we have re-focused our efforts to developing quality enterprise-level reporting-software for business teams. In addition, we wanted to create a product that made it easy for nonprogrammers to design reports. With Windward Reports, we have helped companies of all sizes, from small business to Fortune 100 and governments and solve their reporting crisis. We offer proven, high-quality products and immediate customer care. In the years ahead, Windward will continue to deliver the most cutting-edge business tools for development teams. Our experienced, well-appointed staff is uniquely qualified to meet these goals and to satisfy the demands of the market place.

Today, Windward Reports’ user group spans 65 countries and all continents except Antarctica. We have over 300 customers and current user applications include financial statements, inventory reports, product-usage reports, purchase orders, invoices, training certificates, timesheets, and licenses.

Management Team

David Thielen - CEO and VP of Development. David has spent the last 20 years in the software industry years developing software. He works mostly on start-up companies, such as SiTera (sold to Vitesse), QuickStreet, & Newmerix. He has also worked for 3-1/2 years at Microsoft including in the Far East Windows division (in Tokyo, Taipei & Seoul).

David holds a Bachelors in both Physics and Math from the University of Colorado. David's blog.

Lisa Harris - VP, Marketing. For over 15 years, Lisa has been the marketing force behind numerous successful businesses, publications, websites and conferences. Prior to joining Windward, Lisa was President of Digital ID World, a technology information start-up company, where she launched Digital ID World Magazine and marketed the DIDW conference. Previously, Lisa was Consumer Marketing Director at publishing giant, Primedia, for nearly seven years, where she managed marketing for 17 consumer magazines, launching several new titles. Lisa holds an M.A. from the Univ. of Wisconsin and a B.A. from Scripps College in Claremont, CA.

Shirley Clawson - VP of Operations and Customer Service. Shirley has worked in the software industry for the last 15 years, from vertical applications to educational software companies.
